They recently had to change the disc on our Kinetico to account for this and thankfully we're now back to having soft water.

San Jose Water Hardness (FYI Softener Users)
Just measured at 29 gpg!!! That's almost 3x "very high" per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_water.
